    Effective Lagrangian for Two-photon and Two-gluon Decays of PP-wave Heavy Quarkonium χc0,2\chi_{c0,2} and χb0,2\chi_{b0,2} states

    In the traditional non-relativistic bound state calculation, the two-photon decay amplitudes of the PP-wave χc0,2\chi_{c0,2} and χb0,2\chi_{b0,2} states depend on the derivative of the wave function at the origin which can only be obtained from potential models. However by neglecting the relative quark momenta, the decay amplitude can be written as the matrix element of a local heavy quark field operator which could be obtained from other processes or computed with QCD sum rules technique or lattice simulation. Following the same line as in recent work for the two-photon decays of the SS-wave ηc\eta_{c} and ηb\eta_{b} quarkonia, we show that the effective Lagrangian for the two-photon decays of the PP-wave χc0,2\chi_{c0,2} and χb0,2\chi_{b0,2} is given by the heavy quark energy-momentum tensor local operator or its trace, the QˉQ\bar{Q}Q scalar density and that the expression for χc0\chi_{c0} two-photon and two-gluon decay rate is given by the fχc0f_{\chi_{c0}} decay constant and is similar to that of ηc\eta_{c} which is given by fηcf_{\eta_{c}}. From the existing QCD sum rules value for fχc0f_{\chi_{c0}}, we get 5keV5\rm keV for the χc0\chi_{c0} two-photon width, somewhat larger than measurement, but possibly with large uncertainties.Comment: v3, LaTeX, 5 pages, 1 figure, minor typos corrected, to appear in Physical Review

    High-m Kink/Tearing Modes in Cylindrical Geometry

    The global ideal kink equation, for cylindrical geometry and zero beta, is simplified in the high poloidal mode number limit and used to determine the tearing stability parameter, Δ\Delta^\prime. In the presence of a steep monotonic current gradient, Δ\Delta^\prime becomes a function of a parameter, σ0\sigma_0, characterising the ratio of the maximum current gradient to magnetic shear, and xsx_s, characterising the separation of the resonant surface from the maximum of the current gradient. In equilibria containing a current "spike", so that there is a non-monotonic current profile, Δ\Delta^\prime also depends on two parameters: κ\kappa, related to the ratio of the curvature of the current density at its maximum to the magnetic shear, and xsx_s, which now represents the separation of the resonance from the point of maximum current density. The relation of our results to earlier studies of tearing modes and to recent gyro-kinetic calculations of current driven instabilities, is discussed, together with potential implications for the stability of the tokamak pedestal.Comment: To appear in Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusio

It takes, as its starting point, the concept of ‘social exclusion’, which has developed in Europe and the marginal role that those who have been included in this construct have played in its development and the damaging effects this may have. The article explores service user involvement in research and is itself written from a service user perspective. It pays particular attention to the ideological, practical, theoretical, ethical and methodological issues that such user involvement may raise for research. It examines problems that both research and user involvement may give rise to and also considers developments internationally to involve service users/subjects of research, highlighting some of the possible implications and gains of engaging service user knowledge in research and the need for this to be evaluated
